- If the offense of begging is proved, the beggar becomes liable for punishment for a period of 1 year to 3 years. Such beggars are given shelter in Beggar Homes of the Government as a detenue.
- The beggars who are admitted to this organization are given free food, clothes, medical treatment, bed, education, training etc. and if possible the family of the beggar is contacted and rehabilitated with the family.
- Under the Section 14 of The Bombay Prevention of Begging Act, 1959, a Visiting Committee is formed for each Beggar Reception Centre and Beggar Homes.
- The main motto of these organizations is to make the beggars self-dependent by giving them vocational training.
