An Act to consolidate and amend the law relating to juveniles in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection, by providing for proper care, protection and treatment by catering to their development needs, and by adopting a child-friendly approach in the adjudication and disposition of matters in the best interest of children and for their ultimate rehabilitation through various institutions established under this enactment.
Statutory schemes are implemented in the State of Gujarat for diminishing the level of child crime. Accordingly, the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000 is in force in Gujarat State. The Government of Gujarat has notified the Gujarat Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules, 2011 on 14/02/2011.
Under this Act, boys and girls upto 18 years of age who are living in neglected, orphan, or destitute state of life and are diverted to begging , as well as those who have inclination towards criminal activities, are admitted to any of 16 Government and 9 Non-governmental Child Protection Homes by the Juvenile Justice Board,. Action is taken for their protection, treatment and rehabilitation keeping in view their requirements. |
